While Jill and her family were here in July, we finally had a family picture taken. The last one that was professionally done was when I was 2 and Jill was 1--no joke!

An Apple A Day

Parker's class had a Johnny Appleseed Day at school today. He had fun sampling all the apple treats his classmates brought. His favorites were the apple chips and apple juice. We had fun trying the Johnny Appleseed hat on Spencer when we got home.

I had a good laugh on the way home after picking him up. We've been having problems with Parker not eating his lunch at school. He would rather have more recess time and come home starving than take the time to inhale his food. Is he all boy or what?!? Well, today he got hot lunch. They served 2 of his favorites--grilled cheese or chicken nuggets. He said he chose the grilled cheese. I asked him if he ate it and he said that he did. When I asked him if he was being honest about eating it, he replied, "I would NEVER fail my grilled cheese!" I started to laugh and he said, "That means I will always eat a grilled cheese." Where do these kids come up with this stuff? It cracks me up!

A Day in the Life of Me
One of the enrichment activities our ward at church has started is a photography class. Our first assignment was to capture our day with photos and bring 15 to share. Given that my brain is gone from a combination of lack of continuous sleep and having given birth 2 times, it was harder than I thought to remember my camera. I was really good about it for the first hour or so of my day, then I ended up going back to bed with Spencer for a good chunk of the day while Parker was at school. He's still considered a newborn at 3 months, right?!? The rest of the day wasn't so successful, but here are the results. Without further ado, here is Tuesday, September 9, 2008.
The alarm went off at 7:20 am. By the time I realized today was assignment day, it was 7:31. Oops--I should have realized that this was a sign of things to come and gone back to bed. You may notice the stack of papers under my clock. That is the copy of Midnight Sun, Stephenie Meyers addition to Twilight only it is from Edward's perspective. One of her editors leaked it onto the internet and so she has published what she has written online with little hopes of finishing it. You can read it at this link:
http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/midnightsun.html
My computer savy hubby found a way to crack the code and was able to condense and print it for me since there was no way I could sit infront of the computer for that long and read it. I am just about finished with it and know it will be a sad day when I do. I really hope she decides to finish it for us!
I liked this picture of my boys because it captures how much Spencer adores Parker. He loves to watch his big brother and Parker loves having an audience.
It's just before 8 and we are scrambling to get out the door.
Spencer waiting patiently in his carseat for us to get going.
This is the view that greets us each weekday morning as we leave the quiet of our neighborhood and head out into the craziness of the morning rush.
Heading out on Fairview Avenue.
Welcome to Ron Nunn Elementary. This is our crossing guard lady. I like to think that her name is "Juanita" because she has a thick Spanish accent. I don't really know what her name is. Maybe I should ask her the next time we cross. She is really nice and always says, "You wait for me." She has a really cool umbrella hat that she wears when it is hot outside.
This is Parker exiting into the loop of death, otherwise known as the drop off loop. The parents are crazy when it comes to getting their kids to school on time. You really have to be careful! Every morning before he gets out I make him "give me some sugar"--a kiss on the cheek.
Back at home. It takes less than 10 minutes, but it is way too exciting for Spencer to handle. It is at this point that I think I just may follow his lead. The kid is definitely on to something today.
A little while later (I don't have to tell you how long we slept!) we woke and went to say hi to daddy in his office. Justin just started at Oracle in August and is now working from home 4 days a week. It is awesome to have him home and to be saving $$$ on gas. Plus, he gets done at 4pm!
Ok--so we may have slept the day away, but at least we are clean!
I love the way Spencer smells after his bath. Too cute!
When Parker gets home, he gets a little time to unwind before the homework begins.

We made a batch of my Great-Grandma Ellen's cowboy cookies. Yum!
There is nothing like a warm chocolate chip cookie right out of the oven!
Spencer playing with his frog. He recently started grasping his toys and bringing them to his mouth.
So this is when the camera got put down. Can you tell it must be time to make dinner? How do they know?!?
It's the end of the day and we are trying to get the kids to bed.
And there you have it. A few of the moments from a day in the life of me!

Boys Will Be Boys

Friday morning while I was out walking with my friend, Emma, we came across these puddles in the dry creek bed that had tadpoles and minnows in them. It had Parker and Justin written all over it!
So yesterday evening when it started to cool down a little, we surprised Parker with a trip to the creek. Unfortunately, the water had been let in and the creek was flowing again, but this did not stop my boys.
They waded in and managed to catch a bunch of minnows and 3 tadpoles which are now living in our fish tank at home.
The tadpoles are each at different stages: #1 has arms and legs; #2 just legs; and #3 nothing but a tail.
Spencer joined in on the fun until the trickle of the stream and buzz of the bees put him to sleep.

Fun in the Sun

We had the most amazing Labor Day adventure at Twin Lakes Beach in Santa Cruz. We made the journey with 2 other families, the Moomey's and the Grays.
The weather was beautiful--warm and sunny with a slight ocean breeze, just enough to cool you off. The kids had the best time digging for sand crabs, building sand castles, and playing in the waves.
Derrick rockin' out to Hannah Montana
Jack and Olivia playing in the sand
Kaitlyn and Izzy digging
Parker in the surf
Derrick and Parker digging for crabs.
Me trying out the boogey board
Matt and Izzy building a sand castle
Tay-Tay exfoliating herself
The guys swam out beyond the breakers and also tried out the boogey board.

Spencer loved his first trip to the beach. The sounds of the waves kept him asleep for most of the trip.
And finally, as a tribute to one of our favorite shows, Arrested Development,
here is Lucille, or the Loose Seal that greeted us when we arrived.
